Ghana: Emergency Assistance to Ghana in Response to the Floods Disaster

  1. On Tuesday, June 23, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods worth 8.5 million yen (sleeping pads, blankets, generators etc.) to Ghana, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of Ghana, given the serious damage from floods in the country.

  2. The southern part of Ghana is suffering from floods caused by heavy rain on June 3 and 4. According to the Government of Ghana, as of June 11, 160 people died and 53,000 people were forced to take refuge from the floods.

  3. The Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view as well as in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and Ghana.
